The Very Rev. Eric Metoyer Joins us as a Sabbatical Priest
The Very Rev. Eric Metoyer is currently a regional dean on behalf of the Episcopal Bishop of California, focusing on congregation and community issues. In addition, he serves as a deputy to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church (four terms) and is a member of the Advisory Group on Church Planting and Redevelopment for The Episcopal Church. Rev Metoyer is a featured speaker on Church Planting, Multi-Cultural, and Ecumenical Relations in The Episcopal Church, and has also served as interim vicar and rector of parishes in the Diocese of California. On Sep 1, 2024 he will serve full-time in a new ministry as the Canon for Racial, Environmental and Social Justice for the Diocese of California. His family joined St Mary’s in 1993 and he was ordained from this parish.
Rev Metoyer was raised in the NorthEast Kingdom of Vermont, attending schools and college in New England. He moved to San Francisco in 1990 for love and also to begin his career in corporate accounting. Many years later, he answered a call to ministry in the Episcopal Church, being ordained to Holy Orders in 2011. He is a member of the Union of Black Episcopalians, and the Sovereign Order of St John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller. He is a member of several non profit boards, including Episcopal Community Services, Cathedral School for Boys and Book Club of California. He is married to Jessica Metoyer, JD, and they have a son, former SMV chorister Victor Metoyer IV, USMCR. He looks forward to returning to St Mary the Virgin!
